Whiskey In The Jar - Thin Lizzy

I found this song in Lars Von Trier's "Breaking The Waves" soundtrack (great
movie, indeed). Andreas Bierling says the song is available on longplayers -
on re-releases of "Vagabonds of the western world" as one of four bonus-tracks
(alongside Black Boys in the corner, Randolph's Tango and Broken Dreams).

It took me two days to work it out and a whole morning to write the tabs, til I
got definitely bored of this song. I hope you'll enjoy. I wonder how many
people will look for the song, as it is a pretty obscure one. Anyway I really
like it, and it features great soloing... not by Gary Moore (that's what I
thought until yesterday), but by Eric Bell.

Btw, the verses of this song are an old Irish Tune... I once heard it played on
a violin (and I was playing the guitar in the background). The tune is actually
in D, with a slightly different ending; the chord pattern is:
||: D | D | Bm | Bm | G | G | D | A :||, then
| A | A | D | D | G | G | A | D (end)|

Any comments, additions or improvements are welcome. Though I did my best (and I
think it's fairly accurate), I know something here and there in the
transctiption is not correct. Let me know what you think.

Now, the song:

WHISKEY IN THE JAR - THIN LIZZY

Lyrics & Chords:
---------------

intro: Am G Em (scrape strings with a pick or strum very fast)
main riff: | G F Em G | (2 times)
           | ^ ^ strum... |

   G Em
As I was goin' over the Cork and Kerry mountains
   C G
I saw Captain Farrell and his money he was countin'
   G Em
I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier
        C G
I said stand-o and deliver or the devil he may take ya

               D
chorus: Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
       C
        Whack for my daddy-o

        Whack for my daddy-o
                 G
        There's whiskey in the jar-o

main riff:

I took all of his money, and it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she'd love me, never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman for you know she tricked me easy

chorus:

solo: | G F Em |
        ^ ^ strum...
      verse
      chorus
      main riff

Being drunk and weary I went to Molly's chamber
Takin' my money with me and I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven in walked Captain Farrell
I jumped up, fired off my pistols and I shot him with both barrels

chorus:

main riff:

Now some men like the fishin' and some men like the fowlin'
And some men like ta hear a cannon ball a-roarin'
Me I like sleepin' specially in my Molly's chamber
But here I am in prison, here I am with a ball and chain, yeah

chorus:

Then | Em | G | ad libitum, fading out

Tab explanation:
---------------

       a ^ under a note or a chord name means a staccato.
a |--3--| under the tab means a triplet.
14b(16)r14 means bend up one tone, then release.
some of the slide ups yoe see are actually bends... but it's a matter of
       personal taste.

main riff:
---------

this lick is not enough... I think there's probably another guitar doubling
five semitones lower, or maybe Eric Bell uses an octave divider, or something
like that... I really can't understand where the trick is. While playing the
hammer-ons on the G string (7h9h11 and 0h2h4), be as quick as you can.
